A law to ban abortions at six weeks came into effect in Texas on Sept 1. The law is among a number of "heartbeat" abortion bans enacted in Republican States seeking to prohibit terminations once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, usually at six weeks and often before a woman even realizes she is pregnant.

And across the USA some lawmakers are making moves to overturn a landmark 1970s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. Something pro-choice campaigners have called this an "all-out assault" on abortion rights.

Professor of Law Dr. Mary Ziegler and author of "Abortion and the Law in America: Roe V. Wade to the Present" speaks to us about the future of Roe v. Wade in America and the new Texan heartbeat ban. Law Professor Explains the Texas Abortion Ban | BRIEFLY with Prof. Mary Ziegler
